HeFeng Wallpaper for Mac: Setup, Interaction and Energy Saving
Before you start
HeFeng Wallpaper is preparing its first Mac App Store release. It requires macOS 13 or later. The pond is rendered locally using the Mac’s graphics hardware, with no login or online asset download.
Start and stop the wallpaper
Open the app to display the pond. Use the water-wave icon in the menu bar for controls. Closing the About window keeps the animation running. Choose Quit HeFeng Wallpaper to stop it and reveal your original system wallpaper.
The app does not add an entry to System Settings → Wallpaper. For the pond to stay animated, HeFeng must keep running. Launch at Login is optional and can be disabled from the app menu or macOS Login Items settings.
Use desktop icons and interact with the pond
Keep Interaction Mode off for normal file clicks and dragging. To stir the water, feed fish or tap the frog, turn Interaction Mode on from the menu. This temporarily covers desktop icons. Turn it off again when you need to use desktop files. Interaction Mode is off at each app launch.
Reduce energy use
The default frame rate is 30 fps. A 60 fps option is available, but battery power or Low Power Mode limits rendering to 30 fps. Displays sleeping, the Mac sleeping or your login session becoming inactive automatically pause the animation. A manual pause is preserved when the system resumes.
For a busy Mac or a high-resolution display, use 30 fps or pause while doing demanding work. Graphics load varies by Mac, display count and resolution; a smooth frame rate is not guaranteed on every configuration.
Troubleshooting and support
If icons seem hidden, turn off Interaction Mode. If the pond stops displaying, choose Reload Current Effect. Quit and reopen the app if needed. In a support email, include your macOS version, Mac model and a description of the issue; avoid attaching private files.
